Dear Colleagues,
First off, let me say THANK YOU for electing me to my first full-term as chapter leader of this school. Hopefully I will continue to serve you well as we move forward to what I hope will be a better future and a stronger union. Congratulations are also in order to Frank Anderson, who will repeat as our delegate, and to our new Paraprofessional Rep, Ernestine Outlaw.
It is hard to believe that our regular school year is rapidly coming to an end. In a few days, we will have our largest graduating class, including our first class of eighth graders. In addition, our new computer lab and classroom computers have come to fruition as the installation of these systems have begun.
Not only did the Chapter 683 list come out almost on time, we also got our first look at the new organization sheet and class lists for the 2010 year all in the same week! Pay attention to your assignments. There are also several vacancies that exist. Now is the time to request those assignments before they go to someone else.
Most people who asked for Chapter 683 positions have received one. All sites will be together for the summer, occupying the 4th and 5th floors. If you plan on not accepting a Chapter 683 position, you should let Dr. Giannino know as soon as possible so that someone else can be offered a position. Be aware that should you not accept a Chapter 683 position, you will lose retention rights (if you have it).
Finally, let’s have a smooth last few weeks. We have a few retirement and end-of year parties to attend. I hope to see you ALL at the end of the year celebration; tentatively scheduled for June 19th.
To those who are finishing their last regular school year, it’s been an absolute pleasure. The children of this city and the UFT are indebted to you for serving our school well.
To everyone else, although I am working Chapter 683, The Bridge will return in the fall of 2009. I plan on putting my pen down for the summer. You can still expect e-mails from me about the issues that are important to you. I will still be updating the website, www.thebridge.webnode.com.
Again, thank you for a GREAT year and ENJOY YOUR SUMMER!
At Your Service,
Roderick Palton
