FROM THE DELEGATE ASSEMBLY

The UFT contract negotiation committee has been meeting. To protect the integrity of the contract negotiations, closed door discussions cannot be discussed publicly. However, I do have a list of demands that have been approved by the Delegate Assembly. As I visit your sites, I will be more than happy to discuss these demands with you.

Current Council member and Comptroller candidate John Liu and Public Advocate candidate Bill Di Blasio led all candidates in the primary elections held on September 15th.  The candidates spoke at Wednesday’s DA to thank and recognize the hard work of our political action committee and all the members of the UFT. They recognize that without us, they would not have won their primary.

The candidates, once again need your help. Because they did not get the 40% needed to secure the democratic candidacy, the two top winners in each race will face off in a runoff election in about two weeks. Once again we are asking all members to go out to the polls and support the candidates who will support education and respect teachers.

Remember the Stella Doro cookie company? Let’s not support them! Stella Doro has engaged in shady practices against their employees. After losing a court hearing in favor of its striking employees, Stella Doro, in a retaliatory act, is closing their Bronx plant and moving it to Ohio, leaving these hard working employees without jobs.

More info to come on parking permits. They expire November 1st.

Support our ATR colleagues. Our contract guarantees their employment and salaries, but when these experienced and competent teachers lost their regular positions, through no fault of their own, they ended up frequently being used only as substitutes or teaching out of license. At the same time,...

Without COPE, There's no HOPE

The UFT won a slew of political victories in Albany and City Hall during the last school year, and the union couldn’t have done it without the voluntary financial contributions of members to the union’s ongoing legislative and political work. The wins — which included getting the state and...

JUST FOR PARAS

SAFETY IS EVERYONE’S ISSUE
